Interoperable High-Power Charging Infrastructure for Heavy-Duty Electric Mobility in Mexico

Commissioned by RVO and carried out in collaboration with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Instituto Mexicano del Transporte (IMT), GreenBee delivered a strategic and technical assessment to enable the deployment of interoperable high-power charging infrastructure for heavy-duty electric mobility.

GreenBee's role centered on evaluating the technical, regulatory, and operational conditions required to support large-scale electrification of freight transport. The study included a structured benchmarking of international best practices from the United States, the European Union, and regional referents, with a focus on interoperability frameworks, regulatory models, and infrastructure deployment strategies.

The study further examined the evolution and deployment readiness of high-power charging technologies, including the Megawatt Charging System (MCS) and Combined Charging System (CCS), assessing their suitability for long-haul freight applications.

To ensure practical relevance, GreenBee conducted targeted engagement with key industry stakeholders across the local charging ecosystem, including infrastructure providers, fleet operators, equipment manufacturers, and public institutions. These consultations informed a corridor prioritization analysis, identifying high-impact deployment locations based on freight flows, infrastructure feasibility, and scalability considerations.

The resulting report delivers clear, actionable recommendations to support regulatory development, guide infrastructure investment, and enable interoperable and future-proof charging networks. It provides decision-makers and infrastructure developers with a robust technical foundation to accelerate heavy-duty transport electrification.
